Glitch Nouveau by RoboChandler Glitch Nouveau by RoboChandler
This doesn't look very much like most of what I post. Here's an explanation:

I'm pretty sure this happens to all artists annually but recently I've been in the middle of the classic crisis self esteem - of "EVERYTHING I DO IS GARBAGE UGHHH I CANT MAKE ANYTHING WORK."

So this is a therapy painting. When I realize I'm in the abyss - if I can help it - I try to start a painting with absolutely 0 expectations of success. No intent to show it to anyone. No pressure, just pure mucking about in photoshop/sketchbook/whatever. This rarely results in anything worth showing to anyone (though it often results in figuring out weird ways to do things that I wind up using other places), which is fine and sort of the point. On and off over the last couple weeks however this happened and I actually pretty well liked it and after much fidgeting I decided it could go on the internet.

So here's this.

How about that? An actual description.

I live some other places on the internet too:

Its like that 'glitch' in Matrix movie when Neo sees the same cat twice at the same spot.
So you have, knowingly or unknowingly, have created a "Glitch" for those out there who are ready for this as a trigger image to remind them that it is time to "Remember"!
Well done!

This is a beautiful example of the artist's struggle to convey meaning and vision! It seems though all your effort trying to make something you liked really paid off, it's a stunning piece! I really love the digital details, such as the pixalization or line movement. I would love to see a tutorial on how to accomplish this, but I'm also content to admire your ingenuity from afar! :) Great job, congrats on the DD, it's well-deserved! :+favlove:

Yeah, I really feel like the idea that you have to post regularly and should show everything you do can be sort of destructive. It gets in the way of a lot of the proper exploration and learning that an artist needs to do to grow and be satisfied with their work. It's ok just to play sometimes, to have ugly messy play and if it turns into something polished so be it but it isn't the point.

So go play! and thanks for the nice words :)

Wow. I love the pixellated-sprite thing that's going on with her head and body. It's perfect! Yet each little "pixel" is not all one colour. This painting is simply amazing. You cheered me up.

This is a pretty neat piece, honestly thought it was more of a traditional medium which is why I clicked on it in the first place. Anywho I understand completely the whole "all my art is crap" mind set, I had that fairly often actually, but I learned how to control that into a more critical eye to determine the problems with my art rather than making my self feel like trash.

Essentially you rationalize the thoughts and ask yourself "why" all the time when you start to notice this kind of behavior; if you cannot give yourself a logical, formal explanation for the reason your art is "not good" then you find other people that know how to formally analyze art to give you a critique. Eventually you'll get use to this and completely change the behavior; it's definitely a neat behavior to utilize for progression.

Being critical and disappointed in your work pushes you in two directions - depression or improvement. I think it's very clear where you ended up! This is absolutely gorgeous. Your style is very fresh and creative. Until now, when I had no inspiration and felt hopeless with my art, I just doodled absently, but I'll be taking your advice on doing something more. Who knows what'll come of it. Thank you and keep up the good work!

So glad I could help! Doodling absently is fine too, I guess the trick is to just let it be fun though. Try to set aside the pretense of everything looking right or good and just paint whatever - I promise you most of these sorts of paintings I do don't come out nice at all, it's just about letting yourself play, performance without expectation.

I like the balance between rough (left) and neatly geometrical (right).
It's as if there's a distorted noise in the background and then, when you look at her eyes, everything turns peaceful.
